Easy Chow Mein Recipe
Ingredients
- 250g egg noodles
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 bell pepper (red or green), sliced
- 1 carrot, julienned
- 1 cup cabbage, shredded
- 1 cup bean sprouts
- 200g chicken breast or tofu, thinly sliced (optional)
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Spring onions (green onions), chopped, for garnish
Instructions
Cook the noodles:
Boil the noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and rinse with cold water to stop the cooking process. Toss with 1 teaspoon vegetable oil to prevent sticking.Prepare the sauce:
In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), sesame oil, sugar, and black pepper. Set aside.Stir-fry the vegetables:
Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion and garlic, sauté until fragrant. Add bell pepper, carrot, and cabbage. Stir-fry for 2–3 minutes.Cook the protein:
Push the vegetables to one side. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil and stir-fry the chicken or tofu until cooked through.Combine ingredients:
Add the cooked noodles to the wok. Pour the sauce over the noodles. Toss everything together until evenly coated and heated through (2–3 minutes).Add bean sprouts:
Toss in the bean sprouts, stir-frying for another minute.Serve:
Transfer to plates or a serving dish. Garnish with chopped spring onions and serve hot.
